Last Monday, December 26, I had the honor of speaking at Susan London's (AKA my Fairy Godmother) memorial service. It was a glorious service full of reflections about the Susan I knew and also the parts of Susan I didn't know.

We met you a few months ago like the other millions of Americans watching American Idol. At 10 and 12, my daughters have been regular American Idol watchers for a while now. This year they were excited when I started to watch with them for the first time ever. They were like wow, Mom, you’re watching TV! You created a whole new dynamic around family TV time.
The governor has placed the Redevelopment Agency (RDA) on the chopping block. I know we are a state in crisis. But I have also witnessed the positive economy stimulus provided by the Santa Cruz RDA. The RDA has been an instrumental source of vision and their work for Santa Cruz has just begun. I'm writing to tell you a story. A story of a beach town, a town crowned by the gown of UCSC, a town adjacent to the Silicon Valley.
